MY VALVES JUST STARTED TAPPING AND IT WON'T GO AWAY. THE CAR STILL RUNS AND DRIVES GREAT. IT'S RECOMMENDED THAT I USE PREMIUM GAS, BUT BECAUSE OF THE HIGH PRICES I'VE BEEN USING THE LOW OCTANE FOR THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS. ALSO, I'VE RECENTLY SWITCHED FROM STANDARD OIL TO SYNTHETIC BLEND. COULD EITHER OR BOTH OF THE AFORE MENTIONED BE CAUSING THE PROBLEM OR IS IT SOMETHING ELSE. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.

Hi marios221,

Should be the oil, not the gas.

From what I understand, synthetic oils are not recommended for this engine, it will cause the hydraulic lifters to go bonkers.

Oil treatments will make the matter worse.

Servicing or replacement of the lifters is the best way but you can try replacing the oil and see if it helps. It might take quite some time before the lifters gets to perform well again.
