Engine Mechanical problem
2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Sportronic 2.4l 4cyl with a little over 79.000 miles on it. After it is driven for awhile, the oil light will come on when idling at a stop light. Sometimes it will flicker, sometimes it is steady. After I start driving again and increase the RPM's, the light goes off. I had the oil pump tested and no problems were found. I also had a new sensor switch put in but it still does it. There is no knocking or ticking sounds and it does not burn oil. It does Idle a little rough at stop lights when in drive, but I had a 1992 Eclipse with 102.000 miles that also idled rough. I think this may be some kind of short. What do you think? I also heard that switching to a heavier oil might resolve this problem.

Heavier oil may help, but first you should install a manual gauge to verify what the oil pressure is when it is hot and idling.
