2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse Egr Codes

2001 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE

My eclispe gave a code that said egr air flow malfunction. I replaced the egr valve and still the service engine soon light stays on the the same code is still showing when I scan it for codes. Why is the same codes showing up. I did erase the codes after I installed the new valve, but the same code showed again.
