Engine Cooling problem
1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Are all mitsubishi bolts too long? The bracket for the front or pass side engine mount has two bolts that no matter how much I raise or lower the engine, will not slide out. I'm trying to get to the water pump & timing belt. Does the engine have to come out? This design is similar to the Neon which has barely enough room for the bolts to slide out when you get the engine in the right position. Help!

Hi ktmandy,

Remove the engine mount and you can get them off by jacking the engine higher.

There is no need to remove the engine.

Thanks. That got one of 'em. The one closer to the firewall is still giving trouble. I've been trying to remove these bolts bfore removing the crank pulley. I suspect that once the pulley is off, I will be able to raise the engine a little higher & hopefully gain enough clearance. A very trusted mech. Friend says to drill an access hole in the inner fender. I will remember that next time.

Hi ktmandy,

I would never try to drill anything out.

With the pulleys off you would get more clearance but you don't need to remove the bolts, alone, get them off together with the bracket as an assy after loosening them.
