1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse Car is running rough and idles

1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse Automatic 160000 miles

Last week my car was running high on rpms - wasn't having a hard time shifting and then would break totally down when using the brake to slow down or stop. It now seems like its idling low when I slow down. It's running really rough and white smoke comes out of the exhaust when it is first started. If anyone can help I'd appreciate it!

Check oil for discoloration and coolant level. You may have a bad head gasket letting coolant into cumbustion chamber
