1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse Burning Oil

My 1998 Eclipse smokes only when idling for long periods of time and if it has sat over night it will smoke for the first couple of miles then stop. It burns about one quart every 500 miles or so. Any idea why? And how to repair?

Get a compression check both wet and dry to determine if its valve or ring problem and comeback with the test results-
