1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sputter

My Eclipse has a problem, When i start to take out of 1st gear, it sputters if im in lower Rpm's when i take off. I have to give it more throttle and higher Rpm's to get it too not sputter. When im in 2nd,3rd,4th and 5th it does the same thing i have to give it more rpms. If i accelerate slowly its not as bad as if i punch the throttle because that make it sputter all throughout the gear unless i let off a lil bit. I hooked it up to one of those hand held computers to get an idea, it said Gas Recirrculation Circuit(EGR valve), Cylinder 1 malfunction, And Idler not reached. I need to get this fixed cuz it's really running like crap, and ideas?!?!?!

Lets take it from Cylinder no 1 not working. If the no. one wire & spark plug look good, which I can tell you how to check it. pull number one wire off from spark plug. if you have a rs model , it will be the wire closest to the front of the engine. take a phillips screwdriver, plug it into the wire & position it 1/4 inch away from a metal part of the engine. have someone start the engine. see if it sparks to the metal from the screwdriver. if not?, replace the coil pack. 4 bolts, remove the wire plug , replace it. if it does spark then replace the spark plug on number one. if it still misses, replace the wire or plug wire set. let me know what happens. & thanx for the post!

I tried the test, all cylinders spark. I took the egr valve off and cleaned it with starter fluid, did noting to help. can my coil pack still be messed up if its sparking? maybe it's not enough spark? I just don't understand, my car seems like its not burning the gas im trying to run through it. Because if i accelerate slowly it wont sputter but if i punch the throttle it sputters all the way untill i let off a lil.??????and other ideas?
