Missing at stops or when idling

1995 LINCOLN CONTINENTAL
130,500 MILES • 4.6L • V8 • FWD • AUTOMATIC

This is a great car and usually a great ride, but last year it started missing, mostly when idling at stops or lights etc. Had Spark Plugs and leads, two x coils and all eight injectors replaced. Thought it had done the trick but within twenty four hours the missing was back. Any suggestions please?

scan for codes and check fuel pressure with a gauge auto parts rent it. see link.

This is applicable even if your check engine light is not on.

Hi, really appreciate the replies. Have had a mechanic check for error codes and he said we needed a new ECU unit. We used a reputable parts supplier who obtained a reconditioned one with all matching numbers. Have just had a mechanic friend use his diagnostic tool and it is not showing any fault codes but no. 4 cylinder is still missing and when he removed the lead to no. 4 injector, the engine didn’t change at all (hope I’ve explained that correctly). Have you or anyone else any ideas please. Reply asap would be really appreciated as mechanic friend from UK is staying with us for a few more days. Many thanks

check resistance of injector if still doing it as well as check for a vacuum leak. resistance should be 11-18 ohms

Hi, still no code or engine light but vehicle has now had new spark plugs, leads, coils, ecu, injectors (have all been checked and resistance fine) and although definitely better, it is still missing slightly when idling. Any ideas whilst I still have visiting mechanic friend. Regards

has he checked compression? if ok then open the valve cover and see if cam is worn down or broken valve spring etc.

Thanks, have passed on info. Could it possibly be idle air intake valve? Don’t know where to find it on my 1995 Lincoln Continental.

yes it may be that but scanning for codes should have brought that see if it was. or a vacuum leak.
