Misfiring, popping in exhaust

High idle, when you put it in gear it shuts down. It is hard to start, black soot in tail pipe.

scan for codes and check fuel pressure with a gauge first auto parts rent gauge as it can be either of these. Also, check for a vacuum leak on engine and air leak in exhaust. See link for fuel test.
