Misfiring

Problem started about fifty miles ago. Misfiring at first, has turned into rough idle and car shutting off. No check engine light yet. Pulled number five and six connector plug, no significant difference and still no check engine light. Why not? Suggestions?

I would still run a diagnosis code check as not all codes will set a check light, check spark plugs and ignition, fuel flow and pressure and let me know what codes if any are set.
