I've had cylinder 1 misfire code for over 14 months. had plugs and coils changed twice (different servicer) within 4 months and still misfiring (stalling and bucking while driving). over the holiday while my son driving from college it simply stopped on him while driving and now will not start at all. All lights, radio and heater/cool blowers work fine. I'm lost.

Hi,

At 80,000 miles, this shouldn't be happening. Tell me, is the starter engaging and the engine not starting, or does the starter not react when trying to start it?

Also, let me know if you have a scanner that you could use to check codes

Also, I need you to check something for me, to see if the starter is working. First, see if it starts for a couple of seconds using starting fluid. If it does and then stalls, we will know it is a fuel-related issue. If there is no change, then I will need you to check for spark to the plugs. Here is a link showing how to check for spark:

Additionally, let me know if the shops that did repairs provided diagnostic trouble codes on the receipt/invoice. If they did, let me know what they are.

Take care,

Joe

Thanks for your reply. I don't believe we received codes from service. I know my home tester gave me p0300 (cylinder 1 misfire) only which prompted me to get initial plug and cylinder 1 coil replaced. As for starter question how do I determine that? Car is push button start. When I press the brake and press start it seems like it wants to start but doesn't (no ticking sound when attempting to start).

Hi,

Okay, a P0300 is a random misfire. Perhaps you had a P0301. That would indicate a cylinder one misfire.

Can you do me a favor? Could you make a video of what is happening and upload it for me to see and hear? I'm confused if the starter. If it is working, it will engage and turn the engine. If it isn't, it could make one click, multiple clicking, or nothing at all.

Let me know if you can make the video. If you can't, just let me know if the starter turns the engine but the engine doesn't start.

Take care,

Joe
