2005 Mini Cooper S pinging sounds

Hi. When I down-shift or slow down, I hear pinging noises from the back of the car- muffler area. What could this be? Does not happen when accelerating. Thanks.

Hi there,

This can often be due to a lean mixture have this checked, you may also have a small exhaust leak up stream of the cat converter.
