2005 Mini Cooper temperature gage

I sometimes have heat and sometime do not have heat. Sometimes the temperature gage moves to hot and then moves back to normal. Sometimes the electric fan remains running after I turn the engine off. I checked the coolant and I have more than the full level. What is wrong?

Check/replace the thermostat .. check heater core for blockages or flush heater core !!
