When the car heats up it makes an almost "singing" metal sound that's very loud. It is louder when it's idling or driving slowly, for example in a parking lot, than at regular freeway speeds. There is no sound until it warms up. There is also a gas smell and it sometimes chugs but there never appears to be evidence of a gas leak and the gas mileage hasn't changed appreciably.
