Two weeks ago I had brake pads installed, ball joints, bearings, sway bar links, rotors and calipers. I took it to the mechanic because the brakes were bad and I ended up getting this work done. It has been making a metal scraping grinding noise while driving and the noise is more apparent when I drive at low speed. The noise stops when I lightly tap the brakes. Returned to the mechanic two times and he said he does not hear anything. Also, I know I have a bad muffler. But this noise was apparent before they worked on it.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros. Com The noise you describe sounds like a brake sensor which should not be touching if the brakes are new. There is a steel sensor that will rub the rotor to indicate when the pad is nearly worn out. Other than tapping the brake, is there anything other which changes the sound? I have attached a picture which I found on the net of a steel brake pad sensor. This one is at the center of the pad. Take a look at it and try to locate it on your vehicle's brakes. There is a chance it is bent and touching, or there is a chance the backing plate is bent and rubbing. Check both and let me know what you find.

Well today I went back to the mechanic where I left my truck yesterday. For the fourth time, but this time I drove and the mechanic sat on the backseat. I rolled the back windows down and had the A/C off and radio off. I drove for ten minutes. He finally said he heard the noise. A loud metal scrapping while letting it coast. In the car he told me the other mechanic was hard of hearing. He then said one of the rotors may need resurfacing. I then said that my receipt says the rotors are new. I left the truck. I had to call them back around 5:00 pm. Today to hear an update and they said the truck was ready. They claim all they had to do was lube the brakes that the rotors were fine. I no longer hear the scrapping noise. Just hope it stays this way and I will not go to this place again. And before I ended the call they said there will not be an extra charge. I imagine not since I paid $1,000.00 to get this work done.

Also, in my first post in the last sentence I meant to say the noise was not apparent before I took my truck to them.

It sounds like they forgot to apply some lube to the caliper brackets or to one of the pads. Not something that is uncommon in a busy shop. Or if it was just a bad day for the one doing the work. Not sure I would condemn them for that as we have all had days we would rather forget.
Either way it sounds like they did take care of the problem.

Thank you for using 2carpros. Com.

Considering I returned four times to that shop they had plenty of time to correct this. Almost a month. Not going back.
