I changed my oil for the first time on my truck listed above. This was the third oil change for the truck the first two were preformed at the dealership it has 25,000 miles on it. The filter was packed with metal chips and metal came out of the oil drain pan. I cleaned the chips out of the filter canister. I completed the oil change. Took it to the dealership first thing Monday morning. They were a little confusing one minute they use words like catastrophic failure then they say they say see this all the time even my paperwork says heavy engine repair then to says filter working properly. Anyway they said they looked at my filter looked at magnets didn't find metal but they also said there wouldn't be a tech from dealership to look at the problem until after the first so they recommend I drive it 3,000 miles and then bring it back in. What would you recommend?

Hello,

Metal chips in your vehicle's engine are never a good thing. Usually this is a sign of bearing failure. You should never have metal chips/shavings ever in your oil, but certainly not after 25,000 miles. If your vehicle is under warranty, or even if it is not, you need to take it back to the dealership where the oil changes were done and get some answers. I would definitely lean towards catastrophic engine failure. Ask to talk to the service manager and make sure that everything gets documented. Please keep us informed.

Thanks,
Alex
