Why does my airbag light flash?

I have a 2002 Mercury Villager with 130K miles that has just started a problem with the airbag light flashing on and off. When the key is turned to the start position the light comes on solid then after about 5 seconds starts flashing. I just replaced the drivers seat belt with a used one from another 2002 Villager, does this have anything to do with it? The light didn't flash before. I reinstalled the original seat belt and the light still flashes,

I started the car up and the airbag light continues to flash with no pause, what type of problem would that be? Is there a way for me to reset the light and see if it comes back on?

any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

The seat will have a weight sensor in it and it sounds like it is not plugged in. To be sure read the codes for the airbag system.

It takes an upgraded scanner which you can get from Amazon for about $300.

Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken

My 1995 villager air bag light is flashing but is not flashing a code, just a steady, continuous, even flash. Before doing a service under the dash, as one manual instructed, I had disconnected the neg battery, waited 10 min then disconnected the 2 pin connector on the underside of the steering wheel. When I finished the service I reconnected 2 pin connector then reconnected battery. With first attempt to turn key on the light started flashing(after initial 6-7 sec light test).

You should have an OBD 2 system in the vehicle. Therefore, I recommend having the computer scanned to identify trouble codes. The flashing light won't give the codes. NOTE: If it is flashing, the system will not work in the event of an accident.

They have scanners that can read from all the different systems in the vehicle.

CLEARING CODES

Battery Disconnect Method
When the negative battery terminal is disconnected, codes will be lost from PCM memory after 24 hours.
Scan Tester Method
Codes can be cleared with a scan tester. Follow scan tester manufacturer's instructions.
Jumper Wire Method
Activate Diagnostic Test Mode. Disconnect diagnostic connector. Attach jumper wire to Blue/White and Grey/Blue terminals of diagnostic connector. See Fig. 2. Wait 2 seconds. Remove jumper wire and reconnect diagnostic connector. MIL (CHECK ENGINE light) will stay ON and codes will be erased

I have a 2002 Mercury Villager; the other day the airbag light started flashing on and off. When I start the car the light comes on solid then after about 5 seconds it starts flashing. There are no pauses in the flashing, just solid on and off (like a turn signal does).

I took it to the local repair shop and the put something under the dash to check on a code, and he said there was no code stored. Also, there is no code in the way the light blinks, it just goes on and off like a turn signal does. The repair shop said they have never seen one flash like that before, so they have no clue what to do for it.

Go to another shop as they do not know what they are doing.

There is a code for the air bag if the light is flashing
