Mercury Villager blower motor blowing fuses

I have a 2000 Mercury Villager and recently the heater quit working except on high speed. Then a few days later it quit altogether. I did some research online and decided to try the blower motor resistor, which, when I pulled it, was toasted. I was elated to have found the problem. I bought a new one and installed it. Both 20 amp blower motor fuses were blown so I replaced them, turned on the ignition, turned on the AC, and both fuses blew again. Any ideas on what else to try?

Thanks,
Andrew

Check your switch and the connector that plugs into it.

I ended up replacing the blower motor itself over the weekend and that fixed the problem. Evidently the resistor went out first and then two days later the blower motor went out. I bought a manual for my vehicle and it said that the high speed bypasses the resistor. That would explain why everything but my high speed blower setting went out first and then two days later the high speed went out. Anyway, that problem is fixed. Now I just have to figure out what keeps draining the battery.
Thanks for your help.
