1999 Mercury Villager Will not idel after the battery cable

I have just purchased my van 2 days ago and the battery cables needed cleaning. When trying to remove the cable it broke. We replace the cable, now the van will start fine, but once you take your foot off of the gas pedel, it goes dead and will not idle. thank you for your time and input in this bad problem.

Once the computer completes it releaning and memorized it should disappear
