1999 Mercury Villager leaking hater core

My heater core is leaking and I want to know if I can shut off the water or block the line that delivers the water to the hater core. I would like to do this from the engine compartment if possible.

Yes it is possible to pinch off the heater core from the engine compartment or just by-pass the heater core and just loop the lines together.
On a lighter note: I'd just get it fixed its getting cold outside!
