1997 Mercury Villager Van has fast idle and occasional &quo

The engine idles at 1000rpms. Is that too high? Vehicle sometimes idles rough in "park" and "drive", but more so in "drive". This is an occasional thing and doesn't always do it. What are the indications of a bad ERG valve? What are the indications of a bad idle control valve? What are the indications of a bad distributor?

I had the same problem with my '99. Try getting one or two tanks filled up with premium after that go down to mid grade. I only run it on mid grade. Premium seems to clean out the injection better than injection cleaners.
