The engine starts well in cold weather. However, if it is allowed to cold idle without revving it will run rich (chugging and black smoke) and die. Once it is allowed to die it is very difficult to restart. If it is driven immediately after starting without warm up and allowed to idle at the first light or stop sign the same scenario may occur. If the engine is revved occasionally during warm up the problem can be overted. Once the engine is warmed up the problem goes away. During warm weather there is no problem.
