1995 Mercury Villager 6 cyl Automatic 231000 miles

my car starts when it wants. if i start it and shut if off and start it right back again it's fine. if i start if and let it run for a minute and shut it off it won't start back up until the next day

does it crank but not start
or no crank

it will crank when it wants too. i can try to crank it and it won't, then i can try to crank it in a day or two and it will crank. then i turn it off and it won't crank again.

have the starter checked
also check the small wire at the starter solenoid
test battery and check terminals
