1994 Mercury Villager How long will alternator last?

My villager is almost 200k miles, and I still drive it for long distance. Sometimes I worry that the alternator brush would run out while I am on a long journey. When do you recommend to replace it so that it wont die on the road? What is the average life of alternators?

Wow, at 200k you got your moneys worth out of that one.There is no real "life span" on an alt, too many variances. I would probably replace it if it was mine and I was going on road trips, or possibly buy it and bring along the tools required to change it, although that is no fun on the side of the road
