shifter?

i have a 1995 mercury tracer, and tried shifting it, it was stuck (automatic) then stupidly, forced it and now it as though it isn't attached to anything and it won't start.
help? is it the shifter cable? how do i fix it

Open the hood locate the shifter cable, it will be on the drivers side top of the tranny. Have someone move the shifter...see if ya snapped the cable!

Can't move shifter at all, it is stuck on park.
