First thing you gotta do is figure out if there in no spark or no gas. Get a spark plug pull off a plug wire plug it into the test plug rest it on a ground and crank the engine...any spark? Next there is a valve on the fuel rail that looks like a tire valve. Push the stem in with the key On. Any fuel?
Figure this out and we'll go from there!

Suggested Repair

Before replacing more parts, confirm whether the no-start is from no spark or no fuel. Ground a spark tester on a plug wire and crank to check for spark. With the key on, press the fuel-rail test valve to see if fuel is present, then continue diagnosis from those results.

Conversation Summary

The owner of a 1997 Mercury Tracer says it first would not start in the cold and later quit running. Sensor replacements and a tune-up did not help. It cranks as if it wants to start but seems to lack ignition, and the door locks sometimes locked when it stalled at a light. The expert recommends checking for spark and fuel before further diagnosis.
