1999 Mercury Tracer Battery light

My battery light comes on when the engine rpm's increase above idle. At idle, the light is out and there seems to be no problem.

My first thought is the alternator, but why would it be alright at idle and only have a problem when i step on the gas?

Maybe a problem with teh rectifer bridge in Alt. a diode allowing current flow in both direction.
