1997 Mercury Tracer Tail lights

My wife owns a 1997 Mercury Tracer, Both brake lights are burned out and I can't figure out how to take off the tail light to replace the bulbs, any suggestions?

I'd also love to know how to do it, I've tried and tried but never got the covers off...
