1993 Mercury Tracer throttle body sensor

1993 Mercury Tracer 4 cyl Automatic 150000 miles

I was told I may need a throttle position sensor. Before I buy it...the alternator, belt and battery have already been fixed twice in the last year. The car was only on the road for 2 months out of 2 years. Once the car gets jumped it does drive but really jumpy and sounds awful. Also it wont start again when it is turned off. Could it be the throttle position sensor? and if so, where is it located? I have the book on its way to me but which section would it be in??

As the car only driven 2 months out of the year, and if the battery is left plugged in the car, your battery has died. You have to fully charge the battery (not by running the motor hoping the alternator to charge the battery). You have to remove the battery terminals and attach the battery to a charger until it is fully charge. For the future, when you are storing it remove the battery from the vehicle, and keep the battery in the garage and charge it about once a month. Throttle position sensor may be a part of the problem, but the car may have bad gas as well, if it is only driven 2 months out of the year. Your TPS is located the throttle body assembly
