Engine Mechanical problem
1988 Mercury Tracer 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 88 Tracer and put a 89 motor in it... I am having a issue with the motor bogging down when i hit highway speeds and around 3000-4000 RPMs. We changed the cap and rotor, the plugs and wires are not that old either. Changing the cap and rotor worked for a second. but it seems like the more we ran it and the hotter to motor was the problem came back.

HELP ME PLEASE....

is there anything in the distributor that could cause this.

Lack of acceleration, chugging, hesitating, jerking, bogging, misfiring etc. could be caused by one of the following below:

Oxygen sensor.
Catalytic converter.
Fuel injectors dirty/sticking.
Mass airflow sensor/Airflow meter.
Throttle position sensor.
Crankshaft position sensor
Knock sensor
Manifold absolute pressure sensor.
EGR Valve
Fuel pressure regulator leaking or defective fuel pump.
False air leakage.
Fuel contamination.
Foul/defective spark plugs.
Open spark plug wires.
Ignition coil/Coil packs defective.
Incorrect ignition timing.
Cap and rotor.

Note:If it doesn't apply disregard it.
