1991 Mercury Topaz My Altinator

My Altinator is giving me some problems, the belt keeps burning off about every 2 or 3 days and I have to keep changing it? What could be causing this and how hard would it be for me to fix?

If its not being caused by a loose belt-I suggest you check all the pulleys, power steering, AC compressor etc could be locked-up creating excessive friction
