Hello. My car has 55,000 miles. I bought it 1 month ago. The problem is that when i accelerate and i go for example at 45 mph and with 2400 RPMs, suddenly the RPMS changes to 2200 RPMs (No shifting from the gearbox). If I continue accelerating until 55 MPH, the RPMs decreases at 1500 RPM (i supose that it's normal, because the upshifting happens). Really, i do not know why happens the changing from RPMs without shifting. Why, if i accelerate, suddenly the RMPs (2400 ---> 2200) decreases without gearbox shifting? Thanks.

Is this something that has changed over time?

You may be describing operation of the lock up torque converter clutch (normal). This will deactivate when you touch the brake pedal. Lightly touch the brake and see if this unlocks the converter (noted by an increase in rpm's). When it re-locks there may be a slight decrease.

FYI- A scan tool is needed to check for trouble codes. Some auto parts stores scan for codes free of charge-- Advance Auto and AutoZone are two examples.
