2004 Mercury Sable transmission wont shift

the transmission shifts hard from first to second, and wont shift at all from third to fourth. I changed the fluid and filter, but it made no difference. The fluid looked and smelled good. There was no debris or metal in the pan.

You need a scanner to see what codes are in the Transmission control module. Fair chance you will get code PO732 There is a tsb for this:
