p0146 code?

Our 04 mercury sable service light engine light has come on. code p-0146 revieled o2 sensoris bad. please advise if immediate action is needed. car is operating in a satisfactory manner. no problems noted. if attention is needed advise what and app. cost.

This happended over a year ago and we did nothing and the light went off after several days.

Check the connector to the sensor after the converter, it may have a caffed wire, or water intrusion into the connector.

No immediate attention is needed for this trouble code. It is one of the most common codes to make "engine light" to appear on vehicles. If you do choose to repair it, the culprit will be the oxygen sensor(s) located on the exhaust system. The worse case scenario is that you will see a slight decrease in fuel mileage. The sensors usually run between $50 - $100 each and a labor charge of around $70 - $100 to replace.
