My car has always ran real smooth, never had any problems. The other day, going down the road as normal it was as though it had switched to neutral. I even looked at the gear shift to see if it had been because the RPMs were going up but the car wasn't accelerating. It was obviously still in drive. I parked at a church and turned it off and back on and it wouldn't shift into reverse or drive. It's basically stuck in neutral. Am I going to need a whole new transmission? I'm hoping that maybe something came loose, for it to happen so suddenly without warning.. help?

Did the check engine light come on? Is the trans fluid full and clean?

Let me know.
