2003 Mercury Sable Gas Cap

My check gas cap light came on. I took off and put back on light was still there. I had the gas cap replaced but the light is still on.

Is there something else that would cause this light to still be on?

Have to check the system as if you have a leak or hose of
need to have it smoke tested
