2003 Mercury Sable Engine Shakes / Hesitates

Our 2003 3.0 dohc when at idle intermittently shakes / hesitates. I ran a test by turning off the climate control. When I do that, the shake / hesitation seems to go away. Outside of this problem, the car seems to run fine.

suspect a vacuum leaks
check under throttle body housing for vacuum leaks
and check PCV valve hose
