2002 Mercury Sable engine fails when heat is turned on

Every time the heat is turned on the engine fails. There is a burning rubber smell and rubbing/dull squeaking noise coming from the engine.

You sure the alternator is producing the correct output voltages during a heavy load

absolutely sure that the alternator is not the problem. Charge on the battery is fine .... only have problems when turning on the heat/defrost etc.

Get a voltmeter and read the battery voltage while engine is idling w/o the heat On-Record it now load the the system turn the heat On -Record it-tell me the two readings.
