My 2001 Mercury Sable idles very roughly when it is in neutral. As soon as I put car in park it idles smoothly. When I come to a stop sign it idles very rough. When in Park or driving down the highway it runs smoothly. Makes no difference if car is warmed up or has just been started.
Mechanic installed a new fuel filter and put fuel system cleaner/injector cleaner in the fuel tank. Neither made any difference.
I have always used 91 octane fuel.
Any suggestions? Thanks..............
