On the instrumental panel the service brake light has came on. What could be the cause or the reason for this. Where do I begin to diagonois?

I had the same problem with my 1998 Sable. It was that the Brake fluid was low in the Master Cylinder. I had a leak at one of the brake calipers. Have it checked ASAP by a pro.
