i have taken my car to an aamco repair shop and they said i need a tourqe converter they said it would cost 2000.00 to fix it. does that mean i need a new trans or just the converter. he only ran a test and it said tourqe converter and that one from the junk yard would cost 800.00 but i called auto zone and they said a brand new one is 140.00. my car will not go into gear it runs but it has been making a funny sound for awhile like a toy car and now it just sits there and wont go into drive.

Most likely tranny need to be rebuilt and that is the price of a rebuilt tranny
and its about 800 at the used part store
that is a complete tranny
I do not think that a converter is going to help still have to drop the tranny to install it
