1998 Mercury Sable 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My windsheild wipers only work when evr they what. sometimes they work and sometimes they dont. do you know what could cause this to happen and where is the windsheild wiper motor located at?

its most likely the wiper motor. its locatd in the center of the firewall under the hood
