1998 Mercury Sable no fuel getting to engine

My car was sitting due to a ruptered brake line for a couple months. now it wont start ( just cranks ) i sprayed starting fluid in to the air cleaner opening and the engine started and ran for about 2 minutes, then just cranks again. Where should i start looking ? i hate to drop the tank to change the pump to find out it was a regulator or something

Check the fuel pressure with a gauge to rule out the fuel filter and fuel pump.
