1996 Mercury Sable humming noise

1996 Mercury Sable LS V6 3.0 DOHC 164k humming noise whever turning the wheel to the right while driving. Never to the left & even when I drive straight if I turn it just a lil to the right I hear this loud humming sound. I'm thinking it's the power steering pump.

You didn't say how many miles were on your vehicle, but it could aslo be a wheell bearing. I had my drivers side wheel bearing go out at 100k miles. The noise seemed to change in sound when I unloaded the bearing by sharply turing right or left. Before, I pin pointed the problem, I was convinced that the sound was coming from the transmission.
