1995 Mercury Sable Engine is heating

Not sure about wheel drive type. Just bought this 95 Mercury Sable and after 3 days the engine is heating. The thermostat is rising slightly, but you can smell something and when you open the hood, you feel the heat on the engine. The seller told us he replaced the head gasket because it had overheated beforel

Lets try checking the thermostat, radiator if its clogged and water pump doing its job and then get back with some results
