1994 Mercury Sable starting and idleing

Sometimes this car starts and runs fine and sometimes you have to hold your foot to the floor like it has been flooded. Then it will start and run irraticly and if you try to put it in gear it will die.
the car now has new plugs, new rotor and cap.
The car has sat for about a year but has been started monthly and just started doing this because I now need it for my daughter.

Has the check engine light come on? Also, have you checked fuel pump pressure? Finally, is the fuel in the tank a year old too?

New gas, The check engine light is intermittant, pump pressure is fine.
