Really?
I am about to try the drain/replacement one-step approach.
- Get a gallon of new PS fluid from auto parts store.
- Disconnect return line to PS pump and direct it to a bucket.
- Remove the PS reservoir cap.
- Have a helper turn car on.
- As you notice old, sooty ps fluid go into the bucket, start pouring in new PS fluid.
- Continue, ask helper to turn steering end to end a few times.
- Go on until clear oil comes out of the return line.
- Turn car off and plug hose back into the PS pump.
- Check level at reservoir and top off as needed.
- Close reservoir cap.
Drive happy : )
