1998 Mercury Mystique oil light coming up

ran engine with oil light coming on . checked oil and was fine. after a while car stopped at a red light . turned it back on and drove home. now there is a knocking noise in the engine and the engines feels rough. i have not driven the car eversince.

Check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge -could be the oil pump or engine bearing problem.
