i can start my car and as long as i have my foot on the gas pedal it will run if i take my foot off the gas pedal the car will cut off

Hello,
It sounds like you could have an issue with the idle air control valve (IAC).
It can be due to a dirty IAC can cause the vehicle not to idle. When a IAC gets dirty the air flow through the valve gets restricted. So the IAC cannot work as designed and the engine shuts off.
You can service the IAC by cleaning it out. Most cases this will improve the idle.
