1999 Mercury Mountaineer Overheating

I recently noticed that my car has been over heating when I drive it now it overheats rather quickly, does this mean I'm low on coolant or the radiator is not working I'm rather concerned. This can cause damage correct? I don't know what to do.

Start by replacing the thermostat if it continues get it block and pressure tested.
